“True to life, colorful, portraiture with a flair towards abstraction in regards to the artist’s engaging backgrounds.  Sensitivity is paramount, with a hint of the dramatic.”  Informed Collector

What I hoped to capture in this painting was the mystery of inner thoughts.  A young girl resting, her eyes open but her attention is focused far from her physical surroundings.    There is a special look in someone’s eyes when they are physically in one place but their mind is fundamentally elsewhere.  It is often referred to in simple phrases such as …a far away look; zoned out; dreamy-eyed; letting your mind wander or looking like your a million miles away,  to name a few. We are all able to recognize and relate to the gaze.

In every figure study that I do, the eyes are the key component.  They are the first part of the painting that I work on.  It is here that I feel I capture the person and relay a message to the viewer.   For me the eyes are truly the windows to the mind and soul.  As this painting progressed it also became a study of patterns and shapes created within the cloth that helps draw the viewer into the painting.
